Our summer recruitment saw Briggers boss sign the experienced Chris Simpkins. Chris has had previous spells at Armthorpe Welfare before signing for Goole AFC. After an impressive pre-season we were pleased to get Chris signed up for the 2022/22 season.
We caught up with Chris to ask him a few questions as he re-joined the club for it’s Centenary Season.
Q1. You have played for a few NCEL teams, including last weeks opponents Armthorpe Welfare. What made you decide to sign for the Briggers?
CS. I like the style of play Fudge (gaffer Luke Forgione) wants to play and feel it suits my strengths. I have also heard good things about the gaffer and the players that were already at the club and I think it’s a really exciting time to be at the club with it being our Centenary Year,
Q2. You have trained and played a few games with the lads now, what are your thoughts on what you have seen so far?
CS. The lads are a really nice group and they have all made me feel welcome straight away. The standard and quality in the squad is of a really high level.
Q3. For anyone that has not yet seen you play how would you describe yourself as a player and what can the Briggers fans look forward to seeing from you?
CS. I would describe myself as an attacking full back that likes to get forward and get involved with the attacks, but I also enjoy the defensive side of the game.
Q4. How do you feel your pre-season has gone?
CS. I thought pre-season went well for me, I got a good amount of minutes and got back up to fitness quickly after I broken my wrist towards the back end of last season and not being able to play for 3 months. The first match away at Swallownest was disappointing, especially as we had more than enough chances to win the game. The win at home against Armthorpe was a nice one to win, having spent 4 years previously at the club.
Q5. What are your ambitions for the team and for yourself in the coming season?
From a team point of view I want to help the club improve on last year’s league position and if we can push for the play-offs. On a personal note I just want to try and have a good consistent season.
We want to thank Chris for taking the time to talk with us and wish him well for a good season.
