As usual Gav spoke to Fudge after tonight’s victory against Retford.
Last night was up there with our best performances this season for sure, if not our best. After the draw at Nostell on Friday, which we left feeling a little disappointed not to win, although Nostell had the best two chances early on, we felt we created several chances to win that game, last night was even more important to win to achieve our own personal objectives.
Retford are sitting sixth on the edge of the play offs and have a great season, so we knew we were in for a tough game. There was extra spice added to the game, from the first game, which the lads hadn’t forgot about and this may have been a motivator as well for a good performance on the night.
As a team we were on it, the work rate, attitude and our quality was high individually and as a team which resulted in the win. Glavin’s goal was a great finish on the up and did really well to control the the ball, as well as Brown’s nicely taken header just before half time which gave us a buffer. In the second half, we managed the game well and controlled the tempo and after we scored our third the game fizzled out.
As a group we are determined to finish this season well, I think you could see that reflected in our performance last night. The challenge once again is to back that up on Saturday at home. The boys will rest until Saturday now, they deserve it after last night’s performance.
Special mention to Jason Watkin who has worked tirelessly on the pitch, the Brig faithful who continue to turn out and the volunteers. There is a great vibe around the club at the minute and long may it continue. We hope to back it up again Saturday, as always we anticipate a difficult game to Shirebrook who beat us earlier on in the season.
