Catch up with Lee Morris

Catch up with Lee Morris

Pre-season is done and dusted and the new season is rapidly approaching so we caught up with the Briggers boss Lee Morris on the eve of the big kick-off on Saturday.

So pre-season is over, what are your thoughts?

LM – First of all it is good to back with the players after such a long time away. In terms of our pre-season it has been a mixture of frustration, it has been difficult at times especially as we have lost a number of experienced players to Step 7 due to the concerns on travelling and extra midweek games. We started earlier but its probably only been in the last 7 to 10 days that we have had a settled squad with lots of new faces. In terms of games played we have tried different players and formations and some of the performances have been good, (played 9 won 4 lost 4 and drawn 1) with other performances not so good but that is what pre-season is all about. We have learned from the defeats and it might take us a bit to gel with all the new lads, but they are hungry and we will go into the season prepared and ready to go and we all look forward to the challenge.

We face Parkgate in the FA Vase, how do you view the game?

LM – They are good club with good management and a pitch that will be excellent and I am confident we will be up for the game. We have watched them a couple of times in pre-season and from what we have seen they look in good shape so we will have to be at our best. I think like most managers and players we just can’t wait to get back to playing competitive football, everything starts at 3pm on Saturday and that is when it really matters.

What are your expectations for the season?

LM – To finish as high as we can in what will be a tough league. We have had to bring in lots of new players for one reason or another and it may take a bit of time to gel but the spirit and attitude of the players has been good and we need the supporters to come out and get behind us and get behind the lads. I am pleased with the players we have and if we apply ourselves we will be okay, like every manager we want a good start and who knows where it can take us.

The season kicks off this weekend away at Parkgate FC at 3pm in the FA Vase before our first home fixture at The Pinto Property Stadium against Campion on Tuesday 22 September, kick off 7:45pm
