Chairman’s message ahead of the new season.

Chairman’s message ahead of the new season.

It doesn’t seem 5 minutes since the season ended after our best campaign for 19 years, but with less than 48 hours till we kick off again away at Dronfield Town I wanted to share some thoughts and thanks.

I firstly want to thank our small but hardworking band of volunteers who have worked tirelessly over the summer. Ralph Oldham, Ray Pinder, Peter Clarney, Wayne Halford, John Johnson, Jason Watkin, Ian Shirt, Mark Shakespeare, Derren Trevy, Anna Johnson and Sarah Watson have worked behind the scenes to make sure we are ready to go.

I also want to thank our phenomenal sponsors who have backed the club, going from virtually no sponsors at the end of last season to be heavily supported is greatly appreciated, and with more in the pipeline we can be happy with our progress off the field over the summer.

It was great that we managed to secure the services of our 1st team manager Lee Morris and his assistant David Taylor early into pre-season, they are in my opinion one of the best management teams in the league and in turn managing to keep the majority of our 1st team squad is a real statement of intent and ambition. We also restructured our team structure adding in an U21s to compliment our U19s and also added an U17s and U16s to help to progress younger players through our club. Our excellent U13s and Ladies teams managed by Jason Watkin and Gavin Felton were retained and hopes are high they will both have good seasons and we were pleased to gain an U10s team run by Adrian Bernard and again the signs are promising for a good season.

On behalf of myself and my fellow board members I want to wish all our managers, coaches and players a successful season and I hope that our supporters enjoy the football on offer during 2019/20.

Enjoy the season ahead,

Mark Booth
Worsbrough Bridge AFC Chairman
